Business WIre

The market value is expected to reach US$14.36 billion by 2028. As a Brand Advocate, you’ll be part of a growing industry that is focused on making a positive impact on the world. You’ll be able to stay up-to-date on the latest trends and innovations in clean beauty and be part of a community that is dedicated to making a difference.

If you’ve ever considered becoming a Beautycounter Brand Advocate, chances are you have some questions swirling around in your mind. Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered!

  1. What exactly is a Beautycounter Brand Advocate? A Beautycounter Brand Advocate is someone who is passionate about clean beauty and wants to make a positive impact. As an Advocate, you become part of a community of like-minded individuals who share the same values. Your role is to educate others about the importance of clean beauty and introduce them to Beautycounter’s safe and effective products.
  2. Do I need any previous experience in the beauty industry? Not at all! Beautycounter Brand Advocates come from all walks of life. Whether you’re a beauty enthusiast, a stay-at-home parent, a working professional, or anyone with a genuine interest in clean beauty, you can become an Advocate. Beautycounter provides comprehensive training and resources to equip you with the knowledge and skills you need to succeed.
  3. Isn’t that a PYRAMID SCHEME? I totally get where you’re coming from, and I’m happy to clarify that Beautycounter is definitely not a pyramid scheme. I WAS TERRIFIED that it was one as well, and that is why I resisted joining for so long. Just to clarify…Pyramid schemes are those sneaky, illegal setups that rely mostly on recruiting folks without any real products or services involved. Now, when it comes to Beautycounter, it’s the real deal. Not only do we have an awesome lineup of safe and clean beauty products that we’re all about, but we are also a certified B Corporation. (businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose- think patagonia, athleta, cotopaxi, ben & jerry’s.) Yes, we Advocates earn commissions, but it’s not just from recruiting – it’s from selling these amazing products to folks who want to make healthier beauty choices. Plus, Beautycounter is all about being open and honest. I totally encourage you to do your own digging and check out Beautycounter’s track record. We’re all about clean beauty and ethical practices. If you’ve got more questions or just want to chat more about it, feel free to hit me up anytime!
  4. How can I earn income as a Beautycounter Brand Advocate? One of the great perks of being a Brand Advocate is the ability to earn an income. You can make money through your client’s online orders and if you’re interested in building a team, through mentoring your team of Advocates to success as well. Beautycounter offers a generous compensation plan, providing you with the opportunity to earn both immediate income and long-term residual income.
  5. Will I receive any support or guidance as a Brand Advocate? Absolutely! When you join Beautycounter as a Brand Advocate, you become part of a supportive community. You’ll have access to training materials, regular team meetings, mentorship programs, and ongoing support from Beautycounter’s corporate team. Additionally, you’ll receive personalized guidance and coaching from your upline, fellow Advocates, and the broader community.
  6. Are there any purchase requirements or quotas? Unlike many other direct sales companies, Beautycounter does not impose any monthly purchase requirements or sales quotas on its Brand Advocates. You have the freedom to work at your own pace and set your own goals. While there are incentives and rewards for achieving certain milestones, there is no pressure to meet specific sales targets.
  7. Am I required to recruit? No, you are not required to recruit others as a Beautycounter Brand Advocate. While building a team and mentoring others can be a rewarding aspect of the opportunity, it is entirely optional. As a Brand Advocate, you have the flexibility to focus solely on retail sales and sharing the benefits of clean beauty with others. Whether you choose to solely focus on selling products or decide to build a team is entirely up to you and your personal goals. Beautycounter believes in empowering individuals to define their own path within the business, ensuring that you have the freedom to tailor your approach to what works best for you.
  8. Why do you recruit then? Well, turns out, helping women find a community of multidimensional, word changing badasses while helping their friends and family get safer products into their homes AND earning financial breathing room LIGHTS ME UP. I love it. I love finding women to run with, and this business has provided me SO much more than just an income. I have always loved to mentor, and connecting with women to enrich both of our lives has been a surprising part of the job that I absolutely love.
  9. What does it cost to enroll? To have Brand Advocate status and access your personal website, trainings and social media assets, Beautycounter requires an annual renewal fee of $50. This fee helps cover administrative costs and ensures that you continue to receive ongoing support, training, and access to the latest product launches and promotions. It’s important to note that while there are costs associated with joining and maintaining your Brand Advocate status, Beautycounter provides excellent value in return. The comprehensive training, ongoing support, and the opportunity to earn an income and make a positive impact in the clean beauty industry make it a worthwhile investment for many passionate individuals.
  10. What happens if I join and don’t like it? If you decide that being a Beautycounter Brand Advocate isn’t the right fit for you or if you simply don’t enjoy it as much as you expected, NOTHING HAPPENS. Beautycounter understands that this opportunity may not be for everyone, and your decision will be respected. As a Brand Advocate, you have the flexibility to adjust your level of involvement or discontinue your participation altogether. There are no binding contracts or long-term commitments that force you to continue if you’re not stoked on the gig. You have the freedom to reassess and make choices based on your own lifestyle and goals. If you find that being a Brand Advocate isn’t your cup of tea, you can choose to step back from the business at any time without any penalties or obligations. You can simply discontinue your activities and move on!
  11. What perks do Beautycounter Brand Advocates get? On top of getting 25- 35% commission on your personal sales, early access to products, and other promos throughout the year.

My Only Regret? Not Starting Sooner

If I were to pinpoint my biggest regret in this incredible journey, it would undoubtedly be not jumping into the world of Beautycounter as a Brand Advocate sooner. I let my fear of judgment cast a shadow over my decision, and I can’t help but wish I had said “yes” to this opportunity much earlier.

I know what you might be thinking because I’ve been there too. The fear of what others might think, the hesitations about whether I could do it, and the uncertainty about how it would all pan out – these doubts held me back for far too long.

It’s funny how we often allow fear to dictate our choices, preventing us from seizing opportunities that could profoundly impact our lives. Looking back, I see how I let those apprehensions get the best of me, and it’s something I wish I could change.

In reality, becoming a Beautycounter Brand Advocate has been one of the most rewarding decisions I’ve ever made. I’ve connected with incredible individuals, discovered a passion I didn’t know I had, and made a tangible difference in the clean beauty movement. All those missed opportunities, the connections I could have made, and the lives I could have touched earlier – they weigh on me as a reminder that sometimes, our fears can hold us back from greatness.

So, if you’re standing at the crossroads of hesitation, I encourage you not to let fear be the driver of your decisions. Don’t wait as I did. Embrace the opportunity, take that leap of faith, and see where it can lead you. You might just find, like I did, that the only regret you have is not starting sooner.

In conclusion, becoming a Beautycounter Brand Advocate can be a great opportunity for anyone who is passionate about clean beauty and wants to make a difference in the world. You’ll be able to earn income on your own terms, get access to exclusive products and perks, and be part of a community of like-minded individuals. If you’re ready to take your love of clean beauty to the next level, consider becoming a Beautycounter Brand Advocate today.

The Truth About Tallow

What’s the Beef?? Well, it turns out Tallow is incredibly beneficial for your skin, and when done right, is a very sustainable option for skin care. So before you automatically say no thank you to this skincare option, read this post.

When it comes to sustainability, every aspect of our daily routine matters, including the products we use on our skin. In recent years, there has been a growing trend towards natural and sustainable skincare products. One of the most promising ingredients in this regard is grass-fed beef tallow from regenerative farms.

Grass-fed beef tallow is a rendered fat derived from the suet of cows that have been raised on a grass-based diet. The fat is gently heated, filtered, and purified to create a pure, odorless, and creamy substance that is a rich source of essential fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals.

Using grass-fed beef tallow in skincare products has numerous benefits for both the skin and the environment. Here are some of the key advantages of this ingredient:

  1. Sustainable and regenerative farming practices

Regenerative farming practices prioritize the health of the soil, the animals, and the environment. Cows raised on regenerative farms are free to graze on open pastures, which helps to sequester carbon and build soil health. This approach also helps to reduce the carbon footprint associated with animal agriculture by using less fossil fuel-intensive practices. Using tallow from regenerative farms supports farmers who are working to restore the land and promote biodiversity, while also providing a high-quality ingredient for skincare products.

  1. Nutrient-rich for the skin

Grass-fed beef tallow is an excellent source of nutrients for the skin. It contains a high concentration of essential fatty acids, including stearic, palmitic, and oleic acid, which help to nourish and protect the skin. These fatty acids are also easily absorbed into the skin, making tallow a great ingredient for hydrating and moisturizing dry, damaged skin. Tallow is also rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K, which provide antioxidant benefits and support healthy skin function.

  1. Soothes and heals the skin

Tallow has been used for centuries as a traditional remedy for skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and acne. The fatty acids in tallow help to soothe and repair damaged skin, while the anti-inflammatory properties of vitamins A and D help to reduce inflammation and redness. Tallow is also hypoallergenic, making it a great choice for people with sensitive skin.

  1. Environmentally friendly

Using tallow in skincare products is an environmentally friendly option compared to many synthetic ingredients. Tallow is a natural, renewable resource that can be sustainably sourced from regenerative farms. It also has a low carbon footprint, when it is produced locally and requires minimal processing. Additionally, tallow is biodegradable, which means that it will not contribute to pollution in waterways or landfills.

Grass-fed beef tallow from regenerative farms is a sustainable and beneficial ingredient for skincare products. Its nutrient-rich composition, combined with its environmentally friendly production and farming practices, make it a great choice for conscious consumers who are looking for natural and effective skincare products. By supporting regenerative farming practices and using natural ingredients like grass-fed beef tallow, we can take steps towards a more sustainable and healthy future for ourselves and the planet.

Wondering about the shelf life and stability of tallow-based products, especially in comparison to synthetic or plant-based ingredients?

Well, tallow has a relatively long shelf life, ranging from six months to a year or more, depending on how it is stored and used. It is important to keep tallow-based products in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight or heat, as exposure to these elements can cause the tallow to spoil or become rancid.

Tallow-based skincare products can be stabilized with natural preservatives such as vitamin E, rosemary oil, or grapefruit seed extract, which can help to extend their shelf life and prevent oxidation. These preservatives can also enhance the antioxidant properties of the tallow, providing added benefits for the skin.

I’ve been using Tallow based products in conjunction with my Beautycounter products and my skin is SO happy!

Tallow-based skincare products are typically well-tolerated by the skin and can be used on all skin types, including sensitive and acne-prone skin. Tallow has a similar composition to the natural oils and sebum found in our skin, making it highly compatible and nourishing.

Additionally, tallow-based products can provide a protective barrier for the skin, helping to lock in moisture and prevent transepidermal water loss. This can be particularly beneficial for those with dry or mature skin, as well as those living in colder or drier climates (like me!)

I tried out three different tallow brands. All of them are free from synthetics GMOs, toxins, fillers, artificial colors or artificial fragrances, and all are from grass fed cows. Here are my impressions:

Toups & CoA husband and wife team who sources their tallow from small, family owned farms who are sustainable, fair trade, transparent and ethical. Toups & Co carries other tallow based skincare and makeup items as well, which I have yet to try. This tallow was the most creamy of the three I have tried. My girls love the scent (almond and vanilla) and we have been using it on our dry hands. I like that it comes in a glass jar!

SUMMER SOLACEI fell in love with this brand as it is BIPOC female founded, family owned and is truly dedicated to sustainability. Summer Solace partners with local California ranchers and farmers to source their regenerative, pasture-raised cattle suet from Northern California, local beeswax, and extra virgin olive oil. I mean, check out this blurb from their website:

More than organic, the ranches we work with practice beyond sustainable methods that draw carbon down from the atmosphere and directly assist in reversing the effects of climate change. These animals are responsibly raised and grazed on Northern California pastures within 60 miles of our Oakland studio, helping us minimize transportation’s impact, lower our carbon footprint, and maintain healthy relationships with our ranchers.

Our commitment to a fully traceable, locally-focused supply chain is unparalleled in the health and wellness industry. We are ceaselessly working to revitalize our ancestors’ wise traditional skin care practices by drawing these connections between ourselves, our community, and our local environment in all facets.

Summer Solace

That is like a love language to me. I got the scent masculin/Feminin and its has Frankincense in it. The smell is great, but putting it on my face stings a bit, so next order I will go for the unscented. I love the feel of it- more of a typical balm consistency (not as creamy as Toups & Co.). I LOVE that it from Oakland (I lived in Oakland when I was young and again for about 5 years with Casey.) Summer Solace also has candles, scrubs, soaps, even tallow based SPF! For me personally, this is the most sustainable option: glass jar and the farms used are in close proximity to where it is made and where I live. I also think the price point is incredible for what they provide. I will certainly be a repeat customer of Summer Solace! Use the code _wellhereweare for 10% off your first order.

Herbal Alchemy- This is the one I seem to be reaching for the most for using on my face. The balm comes in a plastic (ugh) roll up stick, and has been perfect for throwing into my swim bag ( my sister and I are training for a triathlon). I’ve consistently used it as part of my skincare routine for about a month now, and my skin has never been so soft. I found it harder to track down where they source their tallow from, although they do claim that it is from grass fed family owned farms that are sustainably and ethically managed. I reached out to ask if the farms were regenerative and organic and this is what they said: “Why We Are Proudly Not USDA Organic Certified-We would have to lower our standards to attain a government certification.” Which left me scratching my head a bit, as I do believe in third party certifications. I do wish there was a bit more transparency about how they find and vet their tallow sources, but I can say that their tallow feels amazing and is making my skin glow.

I hope you found this helpful! Thank you for considering to use my links!

My Breakup with Alcohol

“I needed to lose you to love me…”

213 days ago I woke up with one of those soul crushing hangovers. My girlfriend and I had gone out to celebrate my birthday in Palm Springs, and we spent the night beebopping around having fun drinks and dancing our hearts out at the gay bars (PSA gay bars are the BEST place to have creep free dancing!)

Nothing “bad” happened, no huge dramatic scene, horrific event or trouble with the law… but man oh man, I woke up with a horrible hang over, and most of all, overwhelming feelings anxiety and shame.

These feelings are not new to me, and as someone who deals with and takes medication for anxiety, I have done quite a bit of work to mitigate these feelings.

But then I would drink and all that work would go out the window… Even if it was two glasses of wine, I would wake at 2 in the morning and let my mind wander to every dark road I could possibly find.

Now, this was far from the first time that I over did it and woke up with a fuzzy or NO recollection of the night before. And although I could moderate and even abstain for long stretches of time, eventually I’d have a night where I’d over do it, and then the self loathing would sink in.

Although most people think there is a rock bottom moment for most people who decide to quit drinking, for me, my decision to stop was more due to “a death by a thousand cuts situation.”

No I wasn’t drinking everyday, or in the morning, nor had I had any run-ins with the law due to my overdrinking. My marriage wasn’t falling apart and I wasn’t unfit to be a mother.

But had I strained relationships, embarrassed myself and experienced extreme self loathing due to my drinking? ABSOLUTELY.

Had there been times where I found it hard to stop after two drinks? ABSOLUTELY.

Did I use alcohol to deal with stress or decrease my social anxiety? ABSOLUTELY.

But that day in March, I decided I’d had enough. Drinking Allie was so far from the woman I wanted to be for my family, friends and for myself.

There is a lot of shame, stigma and assumption associated with sobriety. We see struggling with alcohol as a character flaw instead of a sadly incredibly common consequence of drinking an addictive substance in a society obsessed with alcohol (I’m looking at you toxic mommy wine culture!)

I don’t label myself as an alcoholic, nor do I have an everyday struggle with a desire to drink. And for that I know I am fortunate.

I don’t attend meetings, and so rarely do I miss alcohol. I am in early days of my sobriety, and know that as an ever evolving person (and someone who is been humbled enough to know never to say never) I don’t see myself prescribing to the the traditional construct of “Hi I am Allie and I’m and alcoholic” , and #oodat (lone day at a time), especially since I’ve NEVER felt more free from the pull of alcohol. I don’t question the decision.

I consider myself lucky that I stopped drinking before I hit a rock bottom.

My overwhelming gratitude towards my family, my mental and physical health, and my lot in life is my guiding light in my alcohol free journey.

In the past 6 months, I have listened to dozens of books and podcasts by women who are on an alcohol free journey. I have been painfully awkward at events where I didn’t yet have the words or confidence to share why I wasn’t drinking. Although my partner isn’t 100% AF, I have the support of my partner and I can clearly see how our relationship (and our finances) have benefitted from this life change.

I have learned SO much about myself, and I have enjoyed some great mocktails.

And although I thought that going alcohol free meant that I was going to lose friendships, invitations to celebrations, and my ability to dance with abandon…turns out when I quit alcohol I had a lot more to gain than to lose.

I actually gained:

⁃ Self respect

⁃ Peace

⁃ Trust in myself

⁃ Clear skin

⁃ Better sleep

⁃ Deep connections with other women on a AF journey

⁃ Patience with my children

⁃ Energy

⁃ Creativity

⁃ Compassion for myself and others

⁃ Continued support from my rockstar friends

I struggled a lot with whether I should share my story publicly, because the fear or shame and judgment weigh heavy on me.

I worried about whether it was too early in my journey to share, what people would (and will) think, but I’ve decided to share this because I hope that my story might land with someone out there who feels alone.

If you ever want to talk, I’m here for you. 🫶🏼

BC takes DC Take Aways

Last week I was able to participate in 6 meetings with members of Congress & their staff to advocate for more health-protective legislation.

It’s was such an empowering event & I couldn’t be more honored to be alongside of the women (& a few men) fighting for change in this important health & environmental justice issue.

Here’s the background: It’s widely accepted that the personal care and cosmetics industry is currently incredibly underregulated.

As a result, harmful and questionable ingredients are allowed to be used in everyday beauty products. This harms consumers. We deserve to know what is in the products we use and have access to safe personal products that are free of toxic chemicals.

Enter Beautycounter.

We know that Beautycounter alone can’t solve the problem. The lack of transparency in the supply chain can make it hard for companies like ours to truly formulate “clean”products. That’s why we need Congress to pass bills that require ingredient and manufacturing transparency and ban the use of harmful chemicals in the products that we all use every day.

We do this in order to create a future where all beauty is clean beauty, we must advocate to ensure that ALL personal care products are safe.

I still have A LOT of processing to do from our week, but wanted to share a few takeaways ASAP:

  • 1. Use your voice– every text, letter, email, & phone call on an issue you care about REALLY DOES MOVE THE NEEDLE! So find out who your reps are & talk to them about what issues you think are important!!
  • 2. This work MATTERS– This is not just a women’s issue. This is a human & global health issue. The medical community already has published hundreds of peer reviewed studies on the negative health implications of these toxins that we are being exposed to everyday in our personal care products.
  • 3. NEVER underestimate the power of the collective voice-10 years ago no one was talking about “clean beauty” until Gregg Renfrew and @beautycounter disrupted the industry and harnessed the power of 50,000 brand advocates to share this information and use their voice to share with friends and family. And progress has been made, we now see “clean beauty” in Sephora, target, and other major retailers.
  • 4. VOTE WITH YOUR WALLET– consumers have the power to influence the market by demanding that companies value ingredient & supply chain transparency as well as ban the use of harmful chemicals in their products.

But there is MUCH work to do.

  • 👉🏼Many people assume that the personal products on the shelf are adequately regulated by the FDA.
  • 👉🏼Many people still don’t know that many of the products that we are using in our homes & on our bodies are harmful to not only our current health, but also the health of future generations.
  • 👉🏼Many people think that if a personal care product is found to have harmful health implications or toxins- the FDA can pull it from the shelves (NEWSFLASH, it cannot!)
  • 👉🏼Bipartisan legislation must be passed in order to make ALL personal care products safe for consumer.

We will not stop until ALL beauty is clean beauty, not just a niche in the market.

Other Takeaways:

In almost every meeting, we were told that when constituents call, text, email or write a letter to their representative it really does help move the needle on that issue.

As someone who OFTEN emails or joins a text campaign to talk to my reps about climate, clean beauty, women’s health and other issues, I found this to be incredibly heartening.

Prior to these meeting I always figured my email or text most likely didn’t do much. But I am SO glad to be wrong 😜

Moral of the story is, find your voice, use your voice, and let your reps know what is important to you. They are there to work for YOU.

Most of the bills we were advocating for, people ALREADY assume are in place. People (including staffers) were SHOCKED to learn about the amount of toxic chemicals in widely used products.

The Bills We Were Advocating For At a Glance:

At the end of the day, the conversation about clean beauty goes beyond personal care products. Our advocacy is about our health and the environment, and protecting those we love from the effects of harmful chemicals.

Our company’s mission is to get safer products into the hands of everyone.

We do so in three important ways:

1. Educating consumers so they can make safe and healthy choices for the products that they use every day;

2. Offering direct to consumer clean beauty solutions through our product line; and

3. Advocating for new laws to boost transparency in the cosmetics industry and get closer to ensuring that all personal care products are safe and free from harmful chemicals.

Beautycounter seeks to be a solution to this problem both by creating safer, transparent, and high-performing products and by bringing a leading business voice to cosmetic safety reform advocacy.

Pela Case

The phone industry has a HUGE problem. Greedy companies use cheap, polluting plastics for their phone cases. Pela decided that you and our planet deserve better so they created the world’s first compostable phone case. They also have many other accessories that are compostable. Pela Cases are COMPOSTABLE and free of lead, cadmium, BPA and phthalates. Our cases are made of a proprietary blend of biopolymers and Canadian Prairie flax shive. Pela Case is designed to protect your phone and formulated to reduce waste on our planet. Shop here.

Zero Waste Store

“Everything on our planet is intricately interconnected, and the environment that we depend on to survive is impacted by each one of us, and every action (and inaction) we take. Conventional consumer products are creating an unsustainable amount of waste, and exacerbate the environmental problems that potentially threaten life on the planet as we know it. We can’t afford to ignore the bigger problem at hand with consumerism any longer. “

We must rethink the way we consume.

Ethically and Sustainably Made Holiday Gift Guides

Last year I did a blog post about how we need to normalize regifting and secondhand shopping for the holidays, so I encourage you to do that first.

If you cannot find what you’re looking for or you’re in a pinch, I hope these guides can help you find some good stuff! Almost all of the items are sustainably and ethically made (minus the ice roller….) and maybe the Usborne books. I will add to this guide as I make more guides.

4 Step Nighttime Routine with Beautycounter

Picture

This is a super simple, 4 step routine for nights that I don’t have the time or energy for much else!

Feel like you are too dog tired to do a skincare regimen consistently?  Take a peek at my 5 min nighttime skincare routine. You CAN make time for this, I promise!

1. Lotus Glow Cleansing Balm- This is a powerhouse product that you NEED IN YOUR LIFE.  It hydrates while it cleanses, removing makeup and impurities with nourishing ingredients that won’t strip away your skin’s natural moisture. (Bonus: it can also be used as a mask for a hydrating overnight facial.)

2. MAKEUP ERASER- you all already know that this is my favorite way to take off my makeup, GOODBYE WIPES- SEE YA NEVER!

3. Countertime Mineral Hydrating Boost Essence– Lightweight but deeply nourishing, this milky moisturizing essence (like a toner, but more beneficial) lends vital nutrients to the skin’s moisture barrier. Hello more hydration!

3.5 ( You could add a serum here) I love the Countertime Tetrapeptide Radiance Serum

4. Countertime Tetrapeptide Supreme Cream this luxurious  cream supports elasticity and visibly firms while minimizing the look of fine lines and wrinkles.

5. Countertime Ultra Renewal Eye Cream– brightens the under eye area and reduces the appearance of under-eye shadows and crow’s feet for a smooth, firmed look. ( hello mom bags)

Other nights  when you have the time (and energy) you can add in another step (either Overnight Resurfacing Peel or the Charcoal Mask)

Tubby Todd Honest Review

Our favorite clean skin care for kids

As a clean beauty junkie and advocate- I obviously care about what we use on the girls.  Recently, Beautycounter discontinued it’s children’s line. So we turned to Tubby Todd! Tubby Todd uses gentle ingredients and natural plant-based extracts, and ensures the safety of each batch by  conducting  rigorous testing.  I love that this company uses clean ingredients as well as has a mission they call “Tubby Cares”.  Here are some of their great goals!
For 2021:
+ They are committed to providing packaging solutions to cut back on 40,000 8.5oz plastic bottles.

+ Launch additional products and packaging solutions to continue to reduce their footprint!

+ 2,000 Gallon products = 30,000 plastic bottles saved as well as replaced 10,000 bottles with bar soap and Extra Tubby sales.

They also partner with Baby2Baby and donated  over 6,500 bottles of soap and lotion to help families in need to receive skincare essentials.

Tips For “Greening” Your Wardrobe

Picture

Looking to simplify and clean up your wardrobe?

Well here is my quick and dirty (clean?) tips for a cleaner closet:

  1. Marie Kondo that closet.  I mean it- go and touch every single piece of clothing and see if it sparks joy.  If not, donate, sell, or if it is in poor shape grab yourself a For Days (a sustainable clothing brand) Take Back bag and recycle your clothing for product credit!
  1. When you’ve landed on some of your favorite pieces, sit with them for a while.  Don’t rush out and fill in the gaps just yet.  Try and wear what you have and take note of what you really need. I literally mean write that ish down!
  2. When you’ve determined what you need in your wardrobe-first look second hand (ha).  Check poshmark, depop, the real real, in person thrifting, mercari, or find your favorite thrift resellers on insta.
  3. If you cannot buy from there, you can always try to find a sustainable clothing brand option: Patagonia, Outerknown, For Days, Everlane, Pact, Eileen Fisher, Able, Tradlands and many more are good options. Yes- they can be spendy, but remember these pieces are going to be with you as an INVESTMENT.
  4. When investing in new items, natural fibers are best. They often wash and wear better and you are looking for pieces that will last!
  5. Never underestimate the power of accessories! Find some statement earrings, a purse or scarf and it changes the WHOLE vibe.
  6. Don’t be ashamed to be an outfit repeater! Wear that label loud and proud.  If you need something for an event use Rent the Runway to wear something fresh- sustainable and affordable!
  7. Break your fast fashion habit.  Are you just buying what is trendy? Or is it really part of your STYLE.  Hone what makes you feel good, and stick with those pieces.  REAAAAALLLY love a trend? I bet you can find it secondhand! Start the hunt!
  8. PUT ON BLINDERS AT TARGET. I mean dang, their clothing is SO cute but I promise- you very likely DO NOT NEED IT like you think you do!
  9. Wear what you have- this is the most sustainable choice you can make.  Better for your wallet and the Earth!

I promise you, less is more.  It is freeing to have less options.  You will surprise yourself with how many fun outfits you can come up with! Also, its less laundry and less time getting ready in the morning! Yahoo!

Hope you find this helpful!
