As a former Elementary school teacher and now soon to be Kindergarten mom, I have always felt the crackle of excitement as we approach a new school year. This year, I wanted to share a few of the items and tips that we will be implementing as our 5 year old goes off to school! (some of these are affiliate links, some are not)

Lunch Box

I am a big fan of this stainless steel lunch box by PlanetBox. It is dishwasher safe, has many compartments, and Ruby can open it herself (huge win!!!) I love that it will last for years and I don’t have to work about yucky toxins leaching into her food. (not an affiliate)

Stasher Bags

Silicone snack bags have been a staple in our family for years now. Invest in a set, you will not be dissapointed. Dishwasher safe and durable. (not an affiliate)

Beautycounter Sunscreen Stick

This reef safe sunscreen is easy for little hands to apply. It leaves no white cast and is perfectly safe for people of all ages.

Secondhand Clothing

We love using neighbor’s hand me downs for our girls as well as using in person thrift stores or online platforms like Kidizen. (not an affiliate)

Ride your bike, walk, carpool or ride the bus if possible

Cut your carbon emissions and skip the hellacious dropoff/pickup line! Id say thats a win all around! Ruby will be riding the bus to school this year with her cousins- she is SO excited!

Reusable Water Bottle, utensils and cloth napkins

Eliminate single use plastic wherever you can. We love the yeti bottles as they are dishwasher safe, and nobody has time for washing things by hand these days- am I right? As to the utensils- use what you already own, OR you can snag these bamboo sets if you’d like.

LABEL EVERYTHING

This is a perfect time for your children to learn the importance of being responsible for their items. Help them by labeling everything, as well as coming up with a routine of how/where they put their things away when they are done eating at school, and what they do with their items when they walk in the door. It helps to establish a set place for them to put their items so they don’t get lost!

Hope you found this helpful!
